What You Should Know About Pool Deck Safety

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to fire up the grill and enjoy pool parties with friends and family. When it comes to having fun times with friends though, you have to remember to maintain pool deck safety as well. While this means no running around the pool, it also means making sure your deck is waterproofed as well. If you have a waterproof deck, you’re doing your part to ensure safety for your friends and family this summer.

It might come as a surprise to you but getting your deck waterproofed is a part of pool deck safety. This is because when you waterproof your deck, you can actually improve the traction of the surface of the deck. If you have stone in your backyard or pool deck, this can be especially slippery, but even porous concrete can become quite slippery when wet. So even if you have concrete, it doesn’t mean that you’re off the hook. Lucky for you, there are several different ways to improve the traction of your pool deck. Some of these options include adding a textured overlay to the top surface of your deck, using exposed aggregate finishes to the surface or even mixing a clear plastic composite into the sealer before it is applied which adds even more traction to the surface. All of these options will decrease the likelihood of someone slipping and falling so you can rest easy knowing your guests will be safe as they enjoy the pool.

Whether you decide to actually add skid resistant materials into the sealant property or to add a textured sealant on top of the waterproofed surface, the result will still be the same - a safer pool deck. In order to be sure that you’re picking the best option for you, be sure to consult with a certified contractor and they’ll be able to provide options that will best suit your needs.
