The Importance of Waterproofing Your Pool Deck

Owning a pool is one of the joys of being a homeowner. However, if the pool and deck is not properly maintained, it can often cause a headache down the road. Luckily, there is an easy solution to ensure your pool remains in great shape. Sometimes, the inside of the pool is not the only area where leaks are prevented. It is important to also use preventative measures to ensure that cracks don’t form along the surface of your pool deck as well. The best way to ensure this is to waterproof your pool deck.

If you use your pool often, water will inevitably get all over the surface of your deck. If your deck is not waterproofed, the constant water may cause cracks to form. This is because concrete is a very porous material and water can slip into even the tiniest of cracks. Over time, these cracks will increase in size and may cause damage to your deck. The chloride and other pool chemicals in the water will damage the surface of your deck as well. This can easily be avoided however by getting your deck waterproofed. When your deck is waterproofed, it adds a protective layer that not only prevents water fissures from forming, but it also prevents further damage from UV rays and pool chemicals.

An added benefit to waterproofing your deck is that it allows for decorative overlays to be added to the surface of your deck. There are a variety of these overlays that can be added to your deck. These overlays can be tinted with various colors and designs can be stamped into the surface as well. When combined, these overlays can make your concrete deck look like expensive stone, brick, travertine and more - all for a cost that won’t break the bank.
